For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:16

JESUS

The Gospel

The word “Gospel” literally means “good news.” In order to understand why it’s so good, we must first understand the bad news.

We have all sinned.

Due to the Fall in the Garden of Eden, humanity has become corrupted by sin. Sin encompasses anything that creates a divide between us and God, even the slightest falsehood (lies) deviates from the perfect standard set by God. Consequently, our sins separate us from our Creator, and we bear the consequence of our transgressions, which is death.

God sent His Son, Jesus, to save you.

Even though we can’t earn our way back to God or measure up to His perfection, He sent Jesus to come to us! Even though we deserved the death penalty for our sin, Jesus took the penalty. God sent His son, Jesus Christ, to be born of a virgin, live a perfect and holy life, die on the cross, rise from the dead, and conquer our sins. We can be saved by grace through faith in Him! We can depend on Jesus for forgiveness, to give us everlasting life (spending eternity with Him in Heaven), and to also have a relationship with Him here on Earth.‍ “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8 “For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.” 1 Corinthians 15:3–4 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Ephesians 2:8–9

How do I get eternal life?

The word “Gospel” literally means “good news.” In order to understand why it’s so good, we must first understand the bad news.

Repent

What does it mean to repent? It means to do a spiritual U-turn with the help of the Holy Spirit. You turn from sin, and you turn to God. It doesn’t mean you’ll never sin again, but it does mean you are tired of it and don’t want to sin. “Unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.” Luke 13:3‍

‍Believe

Jesus paid the price for you, and He rose from the dead to give you eternal life. “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.” Acts 16:31 ‍

Receive

You invite Christ to come into your life, to be your Lord and your Savior. The moment you call upon His name and receive Him as your Savior, He makes you a new creation. “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name.” John 1:12

Claim God's promise for salvation.

Pray a prayer like this:

‍“Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and confess that I have sinned against You. I turn from my sin right now. I believe that You died on the cross to pay the penalty for my sins, thank you, Lord. I invite you into my life as my personal Lord and Saviour. I give my life to You. Please make me what you want me to be. In Jesus’ name, amen.”‍ If you have sincerely repented of your sin, put your faith in Christ, and called upon His name to save you, then, according to the Bible, you’re a Christian. Old things have passed away, new things have come, and the Spirit of God has come to live within you. Welcome to the family of God! Angels in Heaven are rejoicing, and we at Gunnings Baptist Church would love to rejoice with you as well. If you prayed to receive Christ, please let us know below. We would love to thank God for what He’s done in your life.
